Come spend a few days with me at Cal-a-Vie, the #1 Destination Health Spa – July 18-25
http://www.Cal-a-Vie.com
Here’s a preview of what I’ll be talking about at Cal-a-Vie:

How do you Create Balance in your Life and your Training?

The balance in our lives is like the swinging of a pendulum.

The more it swings to the right toward peak performance, the more it needs to swing back to the other side for full recovery. There may never be a perfect balance for all parts of our lives, but we can strive to attend to each important element at least some time during the week.

We need to be constantly vigilant about what critical parts of ourselves need more of our attention. With a properly balanced lifestyle we can maintain an inner harmony within ourselves and our pursuits.

Visualization for Creating Balance:

Relax into a comfortable chair, close your eyes, and begin to breathe slowly. Take ten deep abdominal breaths. Imagine a circle in front of you where all the pieces of your life can come together.

Notice that the circle includes the appropriate amount of time and energy for each important part of your life. See the sections being balanced exactly the way you would like them to be.

Now imagine that you are waking up in the morning, feeling well rested and refreshed. Allow yourself to begin the day, taking a few moments of quiet time to meditate or to get centered.

See yourself going for a morning workout and feeling energized throughout the day. Imagine what it feels like to make healthy choices – to work hard, play hard, socialize, laugh, exercise, relax, and be spontaneous. Feel the vitality and joy from living a full and balanced life.

Power Words for Balance:

I am learning to balance the important parts of my life.
I am paying attention to my body’s need for a proper balance.
I use a balanced approach to my training.
I know when to push hard and when to back off in my workouts.
I use moderation in my exercise, eating habits, and lifestyle.
I am aware of what is enough in each area of my life.
I am engaging in quality recovery time in order to have balance.

What are the TOP MISTAKES that athletes make?

Just letting you know, the NBC Olympics TV producers just called me. They said, “We want to interview you right away as a top sports psychologist for the Olympics.”

Then 20 minutes later, they brought out their TV production crew to my office and did a full hour interview with me on site, to show how I work with my top athlete clients for the Olympics.

I’ll be a featured as an expert on an NBC-TV interview Tonight on the 5 and/or 6 pm news PST.

This exclusive interview will be syndicated worldwide to most NBC-TV stations and affiliates.

This story will be definitely be shown tonight to over 5 million viewers throughout San Francisco Bay Area.

The times and dates for airing may vary, so it’s hard to say when it will air in each city.

This feature will lead to lots more interviews with NBC on site at the Olympics in Vancouver,

I’m also getting calls from a large number of other international media outlets.

I will definitely record the coverage and post it on my website by tonight.

It will be the first link http://www.drjoann.com/category/tv-show-olympics/

So what are your ideas? What are the mistakes that athletes make? Let me know and I’ll help you with what to do instead.

Imagine what it would feel like to hear your name announced as part of the USA Olympic team – a moment you’d never forget.

As a sports psychologist, it was great news to hear that Jana Lindsey is going to her second Olympics, this time as a serious medal contender. I’ve worked with her as her performance coach, so I’m very excited for this announcement today. Jana just earned a spot on the USA Freestyle Ski Team, and as she did in Torino, Italy in 2006. She will once again represent her country in a freestyle aerial Winter Olympics event, this time in Vancouver, Canada.

I was excited to see Jana’s performance at the World Cup event in Lake Placid, N.Y., this past weekend that virtually assured her a spot on the team, and she was relieved to hear her name called as one of the 18 athletes selected for the team Tuesday by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

Jana said “I pretty much knew before the announcement.” “But it was nice to make it official. That’s been my goal the past four years to make the team and have another chance to compete in an Olympic games and have an opportunity to win a medal. So, yes, it’s very satisfying to make it back again.”

“I will need to do perform four of my very best jumps,” Lindsey said. “The competition will be very tough with the Chinese and the Australians and my own teammates, but if I do my very best and what I know I’m capable of doing, there is no reason why I can’t be on the podium.” Jana says she knows it will take her best effort to bring home a medal.

It’s a good step forward that four spots of the available 18 spots on the USA Freestyle Team were awarded to the women’s aerial team, which shows how strong our US team will be. The 18-person squad will represent the U.S. in three separate men’s and women;s disciplines: mogul, aerial and a new event in ski cross, debuting at the Vancouver Winter Games.

This is the first time in a long time that we have had four women qualify for the Olympic team in aerials so it shows the women’s team is getting much stronger. Jana said: “And while none of us are doing triples as a couple of our competitors are now doing, Lacy and Emily and I are all doing triple twisting doubles in two different jumps and Ashley has one triple twisting double so we think we have a really strong team going to Vancouver and we are excited about that.”

The aerial qualifying jumps take place on Feb. 20 with the finals on Feb. 24.

I will be there on-site of course to watch all of Jana’s ski events and will be reporting to you live from Vancouver for Performing Edge TV.
